Southfield Reservoir

Posted by Administrator on August 27, 2010

Former DDAA secretary Maurice Tate has just started fishing again after a long layoff and wanted to share with us is excellent day at Southfield Reservoir.

Here is Maurice’s Report.

MONDAY 9TH AUGUST 2010

 PEG 85 EAST BANK

WIND WESTERLY MOVING 5 DEGREES BELOW OR ABOVE COMPASS POINT AT 10 MPH

Fished pole at 10 metres because of the head wind, I fed by pole cup at 9 metres to allow for the undertow taking the bait away from me. I started with a 0.5 grm bulk rig 2 no 11s droppers & Kamasan B560/20 hook double bronze maggot, after 4 – 6oz fish I caught a skimmer 10oz at this point I decided to change to my worm/sweet corn rig 0.75grm bulk shot 11inch from the hook again with 2 no 11s droppers & Kamasan B560/16 hook. My goundbait was a mix of my own but did contain a large amount of liquidised hemp and sweet corn along with a tin of sweet corn kernels. My initial feed was 6 balls by pole cup, once I started catching Bream I only topped up when smaller fish moved back in the swim and by 3 balls but on every topping up I included loose casters in the cup with the ground bait. Again once I got that first skimmer and changed rigs I used nothing but worm on the hook and never fed one.

 Result
Approx 10lb of fish below a 1lb
4 fish at 3lb or more= 12lb
33 fish average 2lb = 66lb
A conservative estimate 88 to 90lb and probably lost another 20lb

Maurice has also informed me that he took another 60lb from the reservoir on Wednesday 26th August.

Help us Catch the Culprits

Posted by Administrator on August 18, 2010

Over the summer months we have had several reports of illegal fishing and anti-social behaviour on our waters.
On the River Don and South Yorkshire Navigation our Bailiffs have found hand lines and the remains of dead fish.
Also we have had reports of people using Air Riffles along our waters, this is not only a breach of our rules, but that of the Environment Agency and British Waterways.
We would like to ask all our members and day ticket anglers to be extra vigilant and report these incidents immediately to the necessary authorities.

Environment Agency 0800 80 70 60.
British Waterways 0800 4799947.
